Pete McGuinness is a multi-faceted and uniquely expressive jazz artist, showcasing an unusually wide variety of talents: a sophisticated jazz trombonist, smooth and intricate vocalist, richly emotive arranger-composer, and in-demand jazz educator and clinician.

Pete has performed with the legendary jazz orchestras of Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, Jimmy Heath, and Maria Schneider (including recording on her GRAMMY-winning CD “Concert In The Garden”) and was a semi-finalist of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition. He recently made the leap to national prominence with his new recording, First Flight featuring The Pete McGuinness Jazz Orchestra, (available on Summit Records) that includes his Grammy-nominated arrangement of Smile. Pete McGuinness stands ready to bring the full spectrum of his varied talents to your performance venue or educational setting.

After his training at the New England Conservatory, the University of Miami, the Manhattan School of Music (M.M./Jazz), and studies with renowned composer Bob Brookmeyer, Pete quickly made his mark on the NYC jazz scene, performing in concert, in noted jazz clubs, and on Broadway.

A much sought-after freelance recording trombonist, with more than twenty CDs to his credit, Pete McGuinness has established himself as a fresh voice on numerous recordings with his vibrant arranging and composing for big bands and small ensembles.

The Pete McGuinness Jazz Orchestra’s debut CD, First Flight, features all of Pete’s varied talents - as a trombonist, composer/arranger, and jazz vocalist. With a line-up of some of NYC’s very best big band players and jazz soloists, there are exciting musical personalities standing out in the group that help spur Pete’s charts on to great virtuosic heights.
